Michael Hannigan: Tectonic Studio

Michael is a self-taught painter who finds and grinds many of his own pigments from rocks, minerals, soils, and clays that he and his wife, Deb, pick up from around the American desert southwest. In addition, he collects and paints with prehistoric ochre pigments from Europe where original artists used these same pigments to create cave paintings tens of thousands of years ago. He is also learning to use watercolors to be able to participate in plein air painting sessions with friends.

He paints abstract landscapes drawn from vivid imagery in his mind from his travels.

Look for hematite, limonite, malachite, azurite, and other natural colors in his paintings.

He also makes greeting cards from these paintings.
